## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PLANNED ACTIVITY WAS TO BE A SERIES OF HIGH SPEED TAXI TESTS. THE PILOT HAD COMPLAINED, OVER THE RADIO, THAT HE COULD NOT GET ENOUGH RPM AT FULL THROTTLE. THE PILOT WAS TO BRING THE PLANE BACK TO THE RAMP AT THE END OF THE TEST TO ADJUST THE GROUND ADJUSTABLE PITCH PROPELLER IN ORDER TO ACHIVE THE PROPER RPM. BECAUSE ANOTHER AIRCRAFT WAS ENTERING THE PATTERN AND THE RUNWAY NEEDED TO BE CLEARED. INSTEAD OF TAXIING CLEAR OF THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT GOT AIRBORNE FLYING TO THE NORTH. IT APPEARED TO THE WITNESS THAT THE PLANE WASN'T CLIMBING WELL AND GOING VERY SLOW. THE PILOT TURNED TO THE RIGHT , THE RIGHT WING THEN DIPPED DRAMATICALLY AS THE PLANE APPEARED TO STALL AND DROP TO THE GROUND. THE PILOT EXTRACTED HIMSELF FROM THE WRECKAGE AND THEN LAID DOWN NEARBY. THE WITNESS DID SAY THE AIRCRAFT WAS FAA APPROVED FOR THE NEW TEST FLIGHT AREA. THE OLD AREA WAS IN IDAHO AND SEVEN HOURS HAD BEEN FLOWN THERE. THIS WAS THE FIRST FLIGHT SINCE REASSEMBLY BY NEW OWNER AND UNCLE. THE PLANE APPEARED TO BE HANDLING VERY WELL, BUT LACKED THE POWER TO CLIMB PROPERLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain an adequate airspeed that resulted in a stall/mush during the initial climb. Contributing to the accident were the pilot's lack of experience in this make and model…
