## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PIC CONVEYED HE DID NOT KNOW RUNWAY 36/18 WAS CLOSED. THE NOTAMS IDENTIFYING THE RUNWAY CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, AND HAVE BEEN IN EFFECT FOR THREE DAYS AS VERIFIED FROM AIRPORT OPERATIONS AND LOCKHEED MARTIN FLIGHT DESK AS WELL AS JAX APPROACH. LATER AROUND 19:45L THE AIRPORT DIRECTOR WAS NOTIFIED BY LANDMARK AVIATION THA THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 36, AFTER CLIPPING THE TREES ON EXECUTION OF A GO AROUND. HE INQUIRED ABOUT RUNWAY 26 PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT AND WAS GIVEN THE CLEARANCE TO LAND AS IT WAS OPEN, BUT UNLIT. THE PILOT MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO LAND. DURING THE LAST ATTEMPT HE REALIZED HE WAS TOO HIGH AND FAST AND AT THE END OF 26, THEN ABORTED, INITIATING A SHALLOW LEFT TURN STRIKING AN OAK TREE APPROXIMATELY 40-50' IN HEIGHT, AND ABOUT 24" DIAMETER AT THE BASE. THE PILOT CONTINUED A LOW LEVEL TURN BACK TO THE AIRPORT, INTERSECTING RUNWAY 36'S CENTERLINE LANDING 100 FEET FROM THE PAINTING CREW STAGED AT THE THRESHOLD. THE PIC STATED THAT HE BECAME DISORIENTED WITH THE WORK EQUIPMENT, PRIMARILY THE LIGHTS AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY, THE UNCERTAINTY OF RUNWAY 26 AND WITHOUT LIGHTS WHILE TRYING TO LAND.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
