## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N6871N, A MOONEY M20-E, OPERATING ON A NIGHT VFR FLIGHT PLAN FROM LANTANA, FL TO TITUSVILLE FL. DURING DECENT NEAR SEBASTIAN FL, PILOT REPORTED POWER LOSS AND COULD NOT RESTART ENGINE. PILOT SELECTED LANDING SITE IN BETWEEN TWO HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS IN A STATE OWNED SPARSELY WOODED CONSERVATION AREA. DURING LANDING, AIRCRAFT STRUCK TWO LARGE TREES, EACH TREE SEPARATING THE LEFT AND RIGHT WING AT THE FUSELAGE ATTACHMENTS APPROXIMATELY 40 YARDS PRIOR TO FINAL IMPACT. AIRCRAFT LANDED HARD IN A NOSE LOW UPRIGHT POSITION WITH FLAPS AND LANDING GEAR IN THE CRUISE FLIGHT CONFIGURATION.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
