## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)ON DECEMBER 14, 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 1500 CST, N573BA, A BOEING COMPANY CORPORATE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING AT GARY/CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT DURING HIGH WIND CONDITIONS. THE FLIGHT CREW,UNAWARE OF ANY DAMAGE, EXECUTED A GO AROUND AND FLEW TO CHICAGO MIDWAY AIRPORT (MDW), WHERE THE WINDS WERE REPORTED TO BE MORE FAVORABLE. THE LANDING AND TAXI WERE UNEVENTFUL. AFTER THE FLIGHT CREW EXITED THE AIRPLANE A POST FLIGHT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR SKIN ON THE FORWARD LOWER FUSELAGE AREA (LH/RH) NEAR THE NOSE LANDING GEAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09LA088](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09LA088), Dec 14, 2008: Bombardier CL-600-2B16 (N573BA), Gary, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's excessive airspeed and improper flare while landing in gusting winds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
