## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AS THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING MARSHALLED INTO POSITION THE MARSHALLER BROUGHT THE BOEING 747 ON THE INCORRECT LEAD IN LINE WHICH WAS INTENDED FOR BOEING 757 WHICH HAS A SHORTER WING SPAN. THIS CAUSED THE 747 WING TO STRIKE THE LIGHTPOLE ON THE NORTH EAST SIDE OF THE RAMP INFLICTING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09LA114](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09LA114), Dec 23, 2008: Boeing 747-212B (N486EV), Rockford, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The ground crew's failure to maintain clearance from the light pole while directing the airplane to parking.

## Other reports on N486EV (1)

- [Incident 20111219028969I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20111219028969I), Dec 19, 2011: Boeing 747-212B (N486EV), Minor damage. During climb crew reported a muffled thud and an illuminated #4 engine fire light. Crew accomplished emergency procedures checklist and returned to the airport.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
