## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON DECEMBER 31, 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 0910 (EDT), A BOEING B767-323, N4383AN BEING OPERATED BY AMERICAN AIRLINES SUSTAINED A MINOR DAMAGE. AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT NUMBER 156 OPERATING OUT OF BOSTON REPORTED LOUD THUMP DURING TAKEOFF ROLL AND ABORTED TAKEOFF. AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO GATE. UPON INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE FOUND THAT ONE (1) CARGO PALLET WITH 8800 LBS IN THE FORWARD CARGO COMPARTMENT WAS NOT SECURE TO THE FLOOR. DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL, THE PALLET SHIFTED CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FORWARD CARGO COMPARTMENT AFT BULKHEAD AND THE AIRCONDITIONING COMPONENTS LOCATED BEHIND THE AFT BULKHEAD.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
