## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS AMATEUR KIT-BUILT EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED DURING THE PHASE I TEST FLIGHT PERIOD WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT DURING CRUISE FLIGHT. A WITNESS ON THE GROUND STATED THAT THE ENGINE SPUTTERED BRIEFLY BEFORE QUITTING COMPLETELY. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE PILOT. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE TURNED ON THE FUEL BOOST PUMP, BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE. A DIRT AIRFIELD WAS NEARBY WHERE THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND, BUT WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE STRIP. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS LANDED SHORT OF THE AIRFIELD, IT PASSED THROUGH A WIRE FENCE AND SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER AND RIGHT ELEVATOR. THE PILOT AND SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09LA074](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09LA074), Jan 6, 2009: Rowland GS-2 Sport (N756R), Ramona, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
