## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER DEPARTING LGA, AND WHILE CLIMBING THROUGH 3,200 FEET, US FLIGHT 1549 SUFFERED MULTIPLE BIRDSTRIKES RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER FROM BOTH ENGINES. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RWY 4 AND WAS 7 MILES NORTH OF THE AIRPORT WHEN THE EVENT OCCURED. THE FLIGHT CREW WAS UNABLE TO RETURN TO LGA OR MAKE EITHER TEB OR ERW AND ENDED UP MAKING A SUCCESSFUL DITCHING IN THE HUDSON RIVER. THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE LATER IDENTIFIED THE REMAINS AS THAT OF CANADIAN GEESE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA09MA026](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA09MA026), Jan 15, 2009: Airbus A320 (N106US), Weehawken, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The ingestion of large birds into each engine, which resulted in an almost total loss of thrust in both engines and the subsequent ditching on the Hudson River. Contributing to the fuselage damage…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
