## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TAKEOFF FROM SAN YNEZ AIRPORT, WHILE CLIMBING, THE AFT CYLINDER, AFT SPARK PLUG, DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LOSE POWER AND THE FAILURE OF THE FRONT CYLINDER. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN A FARM FIELD DIRT ACCESS ROAD. THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING CAUSING THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09CA091](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09CA091), Jan 18, 2009: Siemer James H Earthstar (N532JS), Santa Ynez, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power due to the rear cylinder's spark plug coming out of the cylinder head.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
