## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED THE HILO INT’L AIRPORT (PITO) AND FLEW TOWARD HIS REGULAR PRACTICE AREA SOUTH OF HILO. AT 2500 FEET APPROXIMATELY, THE PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE QUIT (CEASED) AND THAT THE PROP STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. THE AIRCRAFT DOES NOT HAVE A STARTER, THEREFORE THE PILOT TRIED TO DIVE TO GET THE PROPELLER TO WINDMILL WITHOUT SUCCESS, TURNED TOWARD THE DRAG STRIP, DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO REACH THE FIELD AND LANDED ON A GRASS CLEARING THAT IS FRONT OF THE DRAG STRIP. THE AIRCRAFT CLIPPED THE WING ON LANDING ON THE FENCE THAT BOARDERS THIS FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE WING AND LANDING GEAR.
