## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON THE FIFTH TAKEOFF OF A NEWLY CERTIFICATED EXPERIMENTAL-AMATEUR BUILT AIRCRAFT, THE AIRPLANE VEERED LEFT DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL AND EXITED RUNWAY 08 APPROXIMATELY 2200 FEET FROM THE DEPARTURE END. WINDS WERE REPORTED FIVE MINUTES PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AS 130 AT 6 KNOTS. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED ON A STRAIGHT PATH APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES LEFT OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HUNDRED YARDS AND THEN TURNED OVER ON ITS BACK. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE LOST CONTROL WHILE INCREASING POWER AND THEN REDUCED POWER SLIGHTLY AND USED RIGHT BRAKE AND RUDDER IN AN ATTEMPT TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. TIRE MARKS ON THE RUNWAY INDICATED ONE ALMOST CONTINUOUS MAIN TIRE MARK FROM THE CENTERLINE TO THE RUNWAY EXIT POINT; INTERMITTENTLY SMALLER TAIL WHEEL MARKS WERE OBSERVED SUPERIMPOSED OVER THE MAIN TIRE MARKS. INTERMITTENT TIRE MARKS WERE OBSERVED FROM ONE AND SOMETIMES BOTH TIRES ALONG THE PATH OF THE AIRCRAFT IN THE DIRT AND THE SAGEBRUSH. THE AIRCRAFT HAD PROPELLER AND SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS AND THE VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER. THE ONE PILOT OCCUPANT REPORTED NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind condition and failure to maintain directional control during takeoff. Contributing to the accident were a crosswind and the pilot's delayed…

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
