## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING AN AIRCRAFT CHECKOUT (NEW OWNER), THE PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR GROUND-LOOPED THE AIRCRAFT ON THE FIRST LANDING CAUSING STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) STATED THAT HE WAS LEFT OF THE CENTER-LINE, WHILE CORRECTING FOR DRIFT. THE PIC STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT SWERVED TO THE RIGHT, AND BOTH HIM AND THE INSTRUCTOR MADE CONTROL INPUTS TO ARREST THE SWERVE; THE AIRCRAFT THEN VEERED TO THE RIGHT (SURFACE), BOTH PILOTS APPLIED LEFT BRAKE TO REMAIN ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED SIDEWARDS AND THE LEFT WING CONTACTED THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA159](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA159), Feb 7, 2009: Cessna 170B (N1825C), Lake Placid, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing. Contributing was the flight instructor's delayed remedial action.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
