## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE MAKING HIS APPROACH TO THE AIRPORT FROM THE NORTH, THE PILOT STATED HE RECALLED THE SUSANVILLE AIRPORT AWOS WAS REPORTING THE WINDS TO BE CALM. HE SAID HE ALSO NOTICED AT THE SAME TIME THAT SMOKE IN THE AREA WAS RISING VERTICALLY, INDICATING CALM CONDITIONS. WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 11, THE AIRPLANE WAS UNEXPECTEDLY BLOWN LEFT OF BEING ALIGNED WITH THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE. THE PILOT STATED HE ELECTED TO EXECUTE A MISSED APPROACH AND ADDED FULL POWER. WITH THE FLAPS SET TO 40 DEGREES, HE SAID THAT HE RECOGNIZED THE AIRPLANES RATE OF CLIMB WAS ZERO. HE SAID HE THEN LOWERED THE NOSE TO INCREASE AIRSPEED AND LOWERED THE FLAPS 10 DEGREES TO INCREASE HIS RATE OF CLIMB. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS OVER THE DIRT AT THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY ASPHALT WHEN THE AIRCRAFT SUDDENLY STRUCK HARD ON THE LEFT MAIN WHEEL. HE SAID THE AIRPLANE SLID ONTO THE RUNWAY ASPHALT AND SKIDDED SIDEWAYS TO A STOP.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
