## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 11, 2009 AT APPROXIMATELY 0600, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, PIC OF N787PH, A SIKORSKY 76 C++, WAS IN THE PROCESS OF GROUND TAXING ONTO A NEWLY CONSTRUCTED FLYWAY FOR PREPARATION FOR TAKE-OFF TO REPOSITION THE AIRCRAFT TO AN ADJACENT PASSENGER LOADING AREA ON THE AIRPORT. AS HE WAS MAKING HIS INITIAL RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO THE TURNAROUND, THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR DEPARTED THE CONCRETE TAXI-WAY AND SANK INTO FRESHLY TILLED SOIL ON THE EDGE OF THE CONCRETE. IN AN EFFORT TO OFFSET THE SINKING MOVEMENT, THE PILOT ADDED POWER BY RAISING THE COLLECTIVE. THE APPLICATION OF POWER CREATED AN INITIAL ROLLING MOMENT TO THE RIGHT FOLLOWED BY AS LEFT PIVOT. CORRECTIVE INPUTS INCLUDING IMMEDIATE APPLICATION OF LEFT CYCLIC TO KEEP THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES FROM CONTACTING THE GROUND AND FOLLOWED BY A QUICK DECREASE IN COLLECTIVE WAS APPLIED TO ARREST THE PIVOTING MOMENT. PRIOR TO COMING TO REST AND ONLY PARTIALLY ON THE CONCRETE TURNAROUND, THE AIRCRAFT ROTATED APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES TO THE LEFT BEFORE COMING TO REST WITH THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR BURIED IN THE SOFT SOIL. ADDITIONALLY, THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR DEPARTED THE PAVEMENT IMBEDDING INTO THE SOFT SOIL SUSTAINING DAMAGE. AT THIS POINT THE AIRCRAFT WAS SHUT-DOWN AND SECURED. MINOR DAMAGE WAS INFLICTED ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE AIRCRAFT ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO RADIO NAVIGATIONAL ANTENNAS. THE WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS VFR, THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON A COMPANY FLIGHT PLAN.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
