## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FROM PILOT'S STATEMENT: LANDING WAS NORMAL AT TOUCHDOWN WITH APPROPRIATE CROSSWIND CONTROLS KEEPING THE AIRCRAFT TRACKING DOWN RUNWAY CENTERLINE. AFTER TAIL WHEEL CONTACT, AS AIRCRAFT SLOWED THROUGH APPROX 25 KNOTS, REQUIRING INCREASING LEFT RUDDER INPUT TO COUNTER RIGHT WEATHERVANING, TAIL WHEEL STEERING BECAME INEFFECTIVE, A RIGHT 180 DEGREE GROUND LOOP RESULTED. THE AIRCRAFT THEN SLID OFF THE RIGHT EDGE OF RUNWAY 16 COMING TO REST FACING NORTH. THE LEFT WING TIP AND LEFT REAR ELEVATOR WAS DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09CA136](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09CA136), Feb 21, 2009: Piper PA-22-160 (N8637D), Ogden, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of directional control during the landing roll due to the separation of the tailwheel spring retaining clip for unknown reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
