## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 02/22/2009 THE PILOT OF THE AIRCRAFT MISHANDLED THE CONTROLS UPON LANDING ON RUNWAY 21 AT MANHATTAN REGIONAL AIRPORT (MHK). WEATHER AND AIRCRAFT AIRWORTHINESS WERE NOT A FACTOR. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FLAIRED TOO EARLY AND LANDED HARD DAMAGING THE NOSE TIRE, PROPELLER, AND FIREWALL. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE PILOT WAS CERTIFICATED AND CURRENT BUT HAD ONLY 4 HOURS IN MAKE AND MODEL AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA229](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA229), Feb 22, 2009: Cessna 172 (N733FR), Manhattan, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
