## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE FLYING PILOT (COPILOT) DECIDED TO CHANGE LANDING RUNWAYS FROM A FINAL APPROACH POSITION OF ABOUT 1 MILE OUT FOR RUNWAY 21 TO LAND ON RUNWAY 19. THE WIND WAS FROM THE EAST AT ABOUT 10 KNOTS. THE MANEUVER REQUIRED A 90 DEGREE RIGHT TURN TO THE WEST, FOLLOWED BY A 110 DEGREE LEFT TURN WHILE DESCENDING TO THE TOUCHDOWN ZONE OF RUNWAY 19. AS THE AIRCRAFT WAS SINKING RAPIDLY AT A LOW SPEED AND DRIFTING ACROSS THE RUNWAY, THE CAPTAIN CALLED FOR A GO-AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON THE RUNWAY, ON THE RIGHT WING FUEL TANK WHILE GO-AROUND POWER WAS BEING APPLIED. AS THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF, IT ROLLED TO THE LEFT AND STRUCK THE LEFT WING FUEL TANK ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE, STREAMING FUEL FROM THE DAMAGED RIGHT TANK, FLEW A VISUAL TRAFFIC PATTERN AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 19 WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING, JUST INBOARD OF THE FUEL TANK, WAS SUBSTANTIAL. STATEMENT FROM THE TOWER CONTROLLERS INDICATE THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT ON A STABILIZED APPROACH AND WAS STILL MANEUVERING AS IT CROSSED THE END OF RUNWAY 19 AND BEGAN ITS LANDING FLARE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA175](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA175), Feb 24, 2009: Gates Learjet 35A (N465NW), Kansas City, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The copilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane during the go-around. Contributing to the accident was the flight crew's delayed decision to perform a go-around.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
