## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 03/16/2009, AT APPROXIMATELY 1045MDT, N342R, A BE-35-D35 WAS LANDED GEAR UP AT THE TAOS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, TAOS, NEW MEXICO (KSKX). THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ A STUDENT PILOT, CERTIFICATE NO.: ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND DID NOT RECEIVE ANY INJURIES. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS RETURNING FROM ESPANOLA, NEW MEXICO WHERE HE HAD MADE ONE LANDING AND WAS ENROUTE TO TAOS, NEW MEXICO. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE MADE A SHORT APPROACH TO RUNWAY 22, USING NO FLAPS AND AT A MUCH HIGHER APPROACH SPEED THAN THE USUAL 70 KNOTS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ALSO STATED THAT HE DID NOT USE HIS NORMAL CHECKLIST AND FELT THAT "EVERYTHING WAS HAPPENING TOO FAST". ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FIRST NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHEN HE SAW THE TIPS OF THE PROPELLER CURLING. HE SAID AT THAT TIME HE BROUGHT THE POWER TO IDLE AND LANDED. WHEN ASKED IF HE FORGOT TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR, HE SAID THAT INITIALLY HE THOUGHT THAT HE HAD FORGOT THE GEAR, BUT THAT A FRIEND LOOKED IN THE AIRCRAFT AND SAID THAT THE GEAR HANDLE WAS IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, ENGINE AND THE BELLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA223](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA223), Mar 16, 2009: Beech D35 (N342R), Taos, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the student pilot to complete the before landing checklist. Contributing to the accident was his failure to lower the landing gear before landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
