## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO FLY UNDER TRANSMISSION LINES WHILE SPRAYING A RICE FIELD. THE RUDDER CONTACTED THE POWER LINES CAUSING THE PILOT TO CRASH IN A FIELD NEAR THE TRANSMISSION LINE. THE PILOT HAD MADE SEVERAL PASSES UNDER THE TRANSMISSION LINES SUCCESSFULLY. THIS IS A COMMON PRACTICE WHEN SPRAYING RICE. THE PILOT SUFFERED A BROKEN ARM AND OTHER INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09LA225](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09LA225), Mar 22, 2009: Air Tractor AT-602 (N5189P), Ville Platte, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the power transmission lines during an aerial application run.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
