## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MARCH 29, 2009 AT 1630 LOCAL TIME, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (PIC) AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (SIC) LANDED N44FR, A CESSNA 550, AT THE SALT LAKE CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT, THE RIGHT HAND MAIN GEAR BEGAN AN UNCOMMANDED RETRACTION. THE FLIGHT CREW WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WHEN THE RIGHT WING STRUCK THE GROUND CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SLIDE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WHERE THE RIGHT WING AND LOWER RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE STRUCK SEVERAL RUNWAY LIGHTS RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE WING AND AIRFRAME. THE FUEL CELLS IN THE RIGHT WING WERE RUPTURED CAUSING A FUEL LEAK WHICH WAS CONTAINED DURING THE RECOVERY OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 3100 FEET FROM THE TOUCHDOWN POINT AND 61 FEET FROM THE CENTERLINE WITH THE RIGHT WING AND LANDING GEAR IN THE MUD AND THE LEFT LANDING GEAR ON THE PAVEMENT. BOTH ENGINES INJESTED MUD AND WERE RUNNING AT THE TIME THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THERE WERE TWO FLIGHT CREW MEMBERS AND ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WITH NO INJURIES REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09LA171](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09LA171), Mar 29, 2009: Cessna 550 (N44FR), Salt Lake City, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The uncommanded retraction of the right main landing gear hydraulic actuator strut for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
