## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N89EA, WAS DESTROYED WHEN IT IMPACTED WITH TREES FOLLOWING AN AILERON ROLL DURING CLIMB-OUT FROM THE FLYING' TIGER AIRPORT (81D), NEAR ANGLETON, TEXAS. THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT, SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES DUE TO BURNS AND A COMPOUND FRACTURE OF HIS COLLAR BONE. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED. WITNESSES REPORTED THAT AS THE AIRPLANE'S WINGS ROLLED BACK TO A LEVEL ATTITUDE THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED INTO TREES. ONE EYEWITNESS THAT IS A PILOT REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS ABLE TO ROLL WINGS LEVEL, BUT IMPACTED THE TREES IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE, DESCRIBED AS A "MUSH". THE AIRCRAFT SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED THE GROUND AND WAS DESTROYED IN A POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09LA236](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09LA236), Apr 4, 2009: Argence RV-8 (N89EA), Angleton, TX, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from trees during initial climbout.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
