## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 33 AT KASL, WHICH IS ONLY 5,002 FT IN LENGTH. KASL'S AWOS WAS OUT OF SERVICE. PILOTS CLAIM THEY USED WEATHER INFORMATION FROM LONGVIEW (KGGG), AND THAT WINDS WERE 280/15. INSPECTORS FROM THE DAL FSDO CONTACTED THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AS WELL AS THE ATC FACILITIES AT BOTH KGGG AND SHRIEVEPORT, LA, (EQUIDISTANT FROM KASL). BOTH FACILITIES SHOWED GUSTY WINDS DURING THE AIRCRAFT'S ARRIVAL TIME THAT WERE BETWEEN 220 AND 230 DEGREES AT 10 TO 25 KNOTS, WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A TAILWIND COMPONENT FOR RUNWAY 33.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
