## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE COMMERCIAL-RATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND HIS STUDENT WERE PERFORMING STOP-AND-GO LANDINGS FROM RUNWAY 36 AT SYI. AFTER THE FOURTH TAKEOFF, AT AN ALTITUDE ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 300 FEET AGL THE ENGINE LOST POWER AS IF IT WERE "THROTTLED BACK" THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE AND INITIATED A TURN TO ATTEMPT A LANDING ON RUNWAY 18. THE ENGINE DID NOT REGAIN FULL POWER AND A FORCED LANDING WAS MADE SHORT OF RUNWAY 18. DURING THE TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH A DRAINAGE DITCH AND CAME TO REST ABOUT 150 FEET FROM THE INITIAL TOUCHDOWN POINT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09LA239](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09LA239), Apr 11, 2009: Diamond DA20 (N964CT), Shelbyville, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power for an undetermined reason.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
