## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 11, 2009, A CESSNA AIRCRAFT, REGISTRATION NUMBER N756BZ, S/N 01033, RAN OUT OF FUEL AND LANDED ALONG SIDE OF ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THEN SLID INTO THE DRAINAGE DITCH. THE LEFT TANK WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY AND THE RIGHT ONLY HAD RESIDUAL FUEL. THERE WERE THREE PERSONS ONBOARD, THE PILOT AND TWO HIGH SCHOOLS STUDENTS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO POST ACCIDENT FIRE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE BECAME DISTRACTED DURING HIS EXTERIOR PREFLIGHT INSPECTION AND NEVER CONFIRMED THE FUEL STATUS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA245](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA245), Apr 11, 2009: Cessna R182 (N756BZ), Granger, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion as a result of the pilot's failure to visually verify that sufficient fuel was on board prior to flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
