## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS ON A LOCAL FLIGHT. HE HAD REDUCED POWER FOR ONE MINUTE OR SO AND WHEN HE ADVANCED THE THROTTLE, THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. HE CHANGED FUEL TANKS AND TURNED ON THE BOOST PUMP WITH NO RESULTS. HE THEN MANEUVERED TO AN OPEN FIELD AND LANDED, BUT THE NOSE GEAR DUG INTO THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER. THE PILOT RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT'S VERTICAL TAIL WAS BENT. THE FUSELAGE WAS WRINKLED JUST AHEAD OF THE TAIL. THE MAGNETOS WERE REMOVED AND GROUND TESTED. NEITHER MAG WAS PRODUCING AN ACCEPTABLE SPARK. THE PILOT SAID BOTH CHECKED GOOD BEFORE TAKE-OFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09LA250](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09LA250), Apr 15, 2009: Jordan Don R Vans RV-6A (N6DJ), Arlington, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to the failure of both magnetos. Contributing to the accident was the lack of preventative maintenance/inspection of the magnetos.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
