## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS MANIPULATING THE FLIGHT CONTROLS WHILE LANDING N9219E ON RUNWAY 30 AT WHITEMAN AIRPORT WHEN THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ON THE RUNWAY AND WENT BACK IN THE AIR IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME BACK DOWN ON THE RUNWAY AND BEGAN TO SWERVE TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT FROM SWERVING TO THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT SWERVED TO THE RIGHT OUT OF CONTROL AND BEGAN SKIDDING ON ONE OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR TIRES WHERE IT SKIDDED INTO THE DIRT AREA BETWEEN RUNWAY 30 AND TAXIWAY ALPHA. THIS CAUSED THE LEFT WING TIP TO STRIKE THE GROUND. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED AND WAS BENT TOWARD THE FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN THE SAME DIRT AREA AND WAS FACING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF RUNWAY 30. IN ACCORDANCE WITH FAA ORDER 4040.9D, CHAPTER 4, SECTION 409, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ COMPLETE A CHECK FLIGHT COORDINATED BY THE NATIONAL FLIGHT PROGRAM AND BE GIVEN COUSELING BY THE FAN NUYS FSDO.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09LA204](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09LA204), Apr 16, 2009: Maule M-5-235C (N9219E), Los Angeles, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswinds and failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
