## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON ROLL OUT AT FDK AFTER A SHORT FLIGHT FROM OKV, THE PILOT HEARD A POP AND OBSERVED THE ENGINE STARTING TO SPOOL DOWN. HE THEN TURNED OFF THE RUNWAY AND STOPPED WHEN HE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND THOUGHT IT WAS RESIDUAL FUEL. HE THEN 'SPOOLED THE ENGINE' (ENGAGED THE STARTER) AND THE SMOKE THEN TURNED BLACK. HE THEN KNEW HE HAD A FIRE AND HE CONTACTED THE FBO. AT THIS TIME HE SHUT OFF THE FUEL SELECTORS AND PULLED THE FIREWALL SHUTOFF VALVE. GROUND PERSONNEL FROM THE FBO PUT THE FIRE OUT PRIOR TO ARRIVAL OF CFR. FBO PERSONNEL FOUND WHAT APPEARED TO BE PARTS OF THE TURBINE ON THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT SAID THAT HE DID NOT SEE OR HEAR A FIRE WARNING INDICATION IN THE COCKPIT. PILOT ALSO STATED THAT HE WAS WEARING A BOSE HEADSET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09LA269](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09LA269), Apr 21, 2009: Cessna 208 (N208JW), Frederick, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to the failure of one or more compressor turbine blades for an undetermined reason.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
