## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE PERFORMING A SIMULATED "ENGINE OUT" APPROACH FOR A DOWNWIND LANDING ON RUNWAY 9 AT E45: DUE TO THE STEEP APPROACH, THE CERTIFICATED PILOT AND CERTIFICATE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND BUT REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE MOVEMENTS. UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE, THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED APPROXIMATELY 1/3 MILES FROM THE EAST END OF RUNWAY. ACCORDING TO WITNESS STATEMENTS AND STATEMENTS FROM THE PILOT, THE FUEL SELECTOR WAS FOUND IN BETWEEN THE LEFT AND RIGHT FUEL TANK POSITION AFTER THE CRASH. INSPECTION OF THE ENGNE CONTROLS (THROTTLE, MIXTURE AND PROPELLER) LINKAGES REVEALED ALL CONTROLS WERE CONNECTED WITH NO BINDING. DURING AIRCRAFT SALVAGE, APPROXIMATELY 27 GALLONS OF AVIATION FUEL AND RECOVERED FROM THE LEFT WING FUEL TANK AND 29 GALLONS OF AVIATION FUEL WAS RECOVERED FROM THE RIGHT WING FUEL TANK. WITH ENGINE STILL INSTALLED TO THE AIRCRAFT AND USING THE SAME AVIATION FUEL RECOVERED FROM THE AIRCRAFT FUEL TANKS, THE ENGINE WAS STARTED MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS OPERATED THROUGH ALL POWER RANGES WITH BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FUEL TANKS SELECTED. SEE ATTACHED SHEET FOR MORE INFORMATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09LA208](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09LA208), Apr 22, 2009: Beech V35B (N8124R), Groveland, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power for undetermined reasons.

## Other reports on N8124R (2)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19850409049999I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19850409049999I), Apr 9, 1985: Beech V35B (N8124R), Red Bluff, CA, Minor damage. Gear collapsed on rollout. Probable inadvertent retraction of gear.
- [Incident 19840831058979I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19840831058979I), Aug 31, 1984: Beech V35B (N8124R), Eugene, OR, Minor damage. Because of IFR, pilot in comand in right seat retracted the landing gear by mistake on the landing rollout.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
