## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A CROSS WIND LANDING PHASE OF AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT THE FLYING PILOT REALIZED LESS THAN OPTIMUM STEERING AUTHORITY WHEN THE TAIL WHEEL WAS DOWN AND HE RELINQUISHED CONTROL TO THE REAR PILOT (PIC). DURING THE ROLL OUT, WITH LIMITED STEERING CONTROL, ONE OR BOTH PILOT APPLIED EXCESSIVE BRAKING AND THE AIRCRAFT NOSE DROPPED TO THE RUNWAY. THE PROPELLER, SPINNER AND LOWER ENGINE COWLING WAS DAMAGED. THE PILOT REPORTED EXPERIENCING A TAIL WHEEL SHIMMY ON THE PREVIOUS LANDING. THE RIGHT SIDE TAIL WHEEL STEERING ATTACH SPRING WAS FOUND UNATTACHED DURING THE INVESTIGATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
