## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS PARTICIPATING IN A BALLOON COMPETITION. AFTER PASSING OVER THE TARGET, HE PROCEEDED TO LAND. PILOT MADE A RELATIVELY STEEP APPROACH DUE TO THE NEED TO APPROACH A FIELD OVER TREES. PILOT LANDED FIRM, BUT NOT HARD. THE EVENT FLIGHT CREWMEMBER ONBOARD (NOT EXPERIENCED IN BALLOON OPERATIONS) COMPLAINED OF A SORE ANKLE AFTER THE LANDING AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. IT APPEARED THAT THE EVENT FLIGHT CREWMEMBER'S FOOT MAY HAVE BEEN BETWEEN THE FUEL TANKS ON LANDING AND TWISTED. MEDICAL PERSONNEL INITIALLY BELIEVED THAT SHE HAD A SPRAINED ANKLE. TWO DAYS AFTER THE LANDING, SHE RECEIVED FURTHER MEDICAL ATTENTION AND A HAIR-LIME FRACTURE IN THE BONE ABOVE HER LEFT ANKLE WAS DISCOVERED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA276](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA276), Apr 26, 2009: Arbc Inc DBA Lindstrand 60X (N877LX), Louisville, KY, no damage. Probable cause: The passenger's inadequate bracing during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
