## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED AIR SAILING GLIDERPORT ENROUTE TO CAMERON PARK, CA AND RETURNED TO LAND AFTER THE CANOPY CAME LOSE. THE PILOT STATED THAT ON TAKEOFF THE CANOPY POPPED OPEN, BUT THAT HE WAS ABLE TO LOCK IT SUFFICIENTLY FOR A SAFE LANDING. HE ADDED THAT DURING THE LANDING FLARE TO RUNWAY 03, THE CANOPY POPPED OPEN AGAIN, BLOCKING HIS FORWARD VIEW OF THE RUNWAY. PHYSICAL EVIDENCE INDICATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND TWISTED AROUND ENDING UP ON ITS NOSE AND MAIN GEAR, POINTING IN A NORTHERLY DIRECTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09LA218](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09LA218), Apr 26, 2009: Weinberg RV-6 (N690V), Sparks, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to follow the pre-takeoff checklist that resulted in the canopy opening during takeoff, which created a distraction, and his failure to maintain aircraft control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
