## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT ON THE SECOND LEG OF A SOLO CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT LANDED SHORT OF KAYS RUNWAY 13 THRESHOLD PRACTICING A FLAP UP LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND NOSE LANDING GEAR FIRST, BREAKING THE STRUT AND FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT OVER INVERTED, SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGING THE AIRCRAFT. DURING THE APPROACH AT APPROXIMATELY 100-150 FEET ABOVE THE SURFACE AND 300 FEET BEFORE THE THRESHOLD THE AIRCRAFT LOST ALTITUDE AND STRUCK THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER ONTO THE UPPER FUSELAGE/WINGS AND VERTICAL STABILZIER AND CAME TO REST INVERTED APPROXIMATELY 225 FEET SHORT OF THE THRESHOLD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA274](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA274), Apr 27, 2009: Cessna 150K (N6213G), Waycross, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during approach in gusty conditions. Contributing to the accident was the student pilot's misunderstanding of the airspeed indicator.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
