## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APPROACH TO RWY 28, WINDS WERE GUSTY FROM THE NW BUT PIC THOUGHT THEY WERE WITHIN HIS AND THE AIRCRAFT'S LIMITATIONS. HE ADMITS BEING TOO SLOW, JUST ABOVE A STALL, WHEN HE WAS "BLOWN OFF CENTERLINE". HE ENDED UP LANDING IN ROUGH GRASS ON THE LEFT (SOUTH) SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. ALL THREE LANDING GEAR WERE DAMAGED AND THE PLANE FLIPPED OVER, CRUSHING THE VERTICLE STABILIZER AND RUDDER. AIRPORT MANAGER STATES THE PLANE CAME TO A STOP APPROX. 500' FROM THE RUNWAY. THE PLANE WAS DISASSEMBLED AND MOVED TO HIS HANGAR BY THE OWNER PRIOR TO NTSB NOTIFICATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09CA243](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09CA243), May 13, 2009: ART Lee Delano CH701 (N701LD), Oakdale, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the gusty crosswind conditions while landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
