## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED ENGINE TROUBLE WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT. PILOT CONTACTED ATLANTA APPROACH AND REQUESTED VECTORS TO NEAREST AIRPORT. PILOT DID NOT INFORM ATC OF ENGINE TROUBLE/FAILURE. PILOT WAS TRYING TO REACH THE AUBURN-OPELIKA AIRPORT (KAUO) BUT COULD NOT MAKE IT AND DIVERTED TO A HAY FIELD. PILOT DID NOT SET UP PROPERLY TO INITIATE EMERGENCY LANDING AT HAY FIELD AND LOST AIRSPEED AND SUBSEQUENT CONTROL OF AIRCRAFT AND STALLED THROUGH TREES INTO FIELD. PILOT AND PASSENGER IN COPILOT SEAT WERE KILLED. REAR OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES ONLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09FA289](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09FA289), May 15, 2009: Beech A36 (N191MK), Beauregard, AL, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper fuel management, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
