(-23) THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE CONDUCTING A PART 91 VFR CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM SAN DIEGO, CA TO ALBUQUERQUE NM. THE FLIGHT PATH INCLUDED A FUEL STOP AT BLYTHE CA PRIOR TO PROCEEDING TO AN ADDITIONAL FUEL STOP IN COTTONWOOD AZ. DURING THE LANDING AT THE COTTONWOOD AIRPORT THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A GUST OF WIND THAT TILTED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT RESULTING IN A CLIPPING OF THE LEFT WING ON THE RUNWAY. THE CLIPPING OF THE LEFT BOTTOM WING RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT VEERING OFF THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT. REPORTED DAMAGE FROM THIS EVENT IS TO THE AIRCRAFT ONLY. THERE IS MAJOR STRUCTURE DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM LEFT WING, INCLUDING THE SPAR AND SEVERAL RIBS BROKEN. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR THE PASSENGER. THE NATIONAL CLIMATIC DATA CENTER (NCDC) HAS NO RECORED WEATHER INFORMATION OF COTTONWOOD AIRPORT, P52, AVAILABLE. HOWEVER, THE NCDC WEATHER REPORT RECORDED AT A PROXIMITY AIRPORT, KPRC-PRESCOTT AZ, RECORDED ONLY 2 WIND GUSTS ON 5/17/2009.
