## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PRIVATE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND AIRCRAFT OWNER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TOPPED THE TANKS OF N3063U AT HARFORD COUNTY AIRPORT (OW3). THEY FLEW TO CAMPBELL FIELD (9VG), WEIEWOOD, VA. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS THE PILOT FOR THE RETURN FLIGHT. THEY LEFT CAMPBELL FIELD AND WERE GOING BACK TO HARFORD COUNTY. THE ENGINE QUIT DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. THEY SWITCHED TO THE LEFT FUEL TANK BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT RESTART. THEY TRIED TO LAND IN A FIELD BUT FLOATED MOST OF LENGTH. THEY ATTEMPTED TO AVOID THE TREES AND TURNED LEFT AFTER LANDING. THEY CROSSED ROUTE 7, WHICH TOOK OUT THE NOSE GEAR. THE ROAD WAS HIGHER THAN THE FIELD. AFTER CROSSING THE ROAD THE RIGHT WING HIT A TREE AND DAMAGED THE RIGHT WING LEADING EDGE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOVED OFF THE ROAD AND SECURED ON THE LAWN OF A HOME IN FRONT OF WHERE THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED. THERE WERE NO INJRIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA297](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA297), May 20, 2009: Cessna 172 (N3063U), Perryville, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion as a result of the pilot’s inadequate preflight planning.

## Other reports on N3063U (1)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
