## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MR. DAVID W. DYE, A STUDENT PILOT, RETURNED FROM A SOLO CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM BALDWIN COUNTY AIRPORT (KMLJ) IN MILLIDGEVILLE, GA AND CAME INTO LAND ON RUNWAY 10 AT ELBERT COUNTY AIRPORT-PATZ FIELD (27A), HIS HOME AIRPORT. THE DESCENT AND APPROACH INTO RUNWAY 10 WERE NORMAL, BUT DURING THE LANDING FLARE, THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN NOSE FIRST AND THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ABOUT TWO TO THREE FEET. AS EXPLAINED BY MR. DYE, LACK OF PROPER CONTROL INPUTS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO BOUNCE THREE MORE TIMES. ON THE LAST BOUNCE THE AIRCRAFT HIT HARD CAUSING THE FIXED NOSE GEAR TO COLLAPSE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN THE GRASS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY ABOUT 80 YARDS FROM IMPACT WITH THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA318](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA318), Jun 1, 2009: Piper PA28 (N8909W), Elberton, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing.

## Other reports on N8909W (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
