## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 3, 2009, AT APPROXIMATELY 1635 CDT, THE FLIGHT CREW ON N33UB, A BEECH AIRCRAFT MODEL F33A, ATTEMPTED A FLAPLESS LANDING ON RUNWAY 34 AT MIDLAND AIRPARK (MDD), MIDLAND, TEXAS. THIS FLIGHT TRAINING WAS PERFORMED UNDER THE PART 141 CERTIFICATE TO DEMONSTRATE SIMILARITY OF LANDING AN AIRCRAFT WTH A TOTAL LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER. AT APPROXIMATELY AT 60 TO 80 FEET AGL, THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED NOSE UP 5 DEGREES AND BANKED SLIGHTLY LEFT AS IF IT WAS PASSING THROUGH A THERMAL. ANTICIPATING A STALL, THE PILOT RECEIVING TRAINING ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER BY APPLYING FULL POWER BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH AIRSPEED TO MAINTAIN FLIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE RUNWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 900 FEET FROM THE END OF RUNWAY 34. THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR (LG) TIRE BLEW OUT FORCING BOTH LG ASSEMBLIES UPWARD, DAMAGING THE RIGHT WING FORWARD SPAR AND BOTH AFT SPARS. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, APPROXIMATELY 2000 FEET FROM THE INITIAL IMPACT POINT. THE PILOTS AND PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA336](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA336), Jun 3, 2009: Beech F33A (N33UB), Midland, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper flare resulting in a hard landing. Contributing to the accident was the inadequate oversight of the flight by the instructor pilot.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
