## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF FROM LAKE HOOD SEAPLANE BASE, ANCHORAGE, AK (LHD) AT 1333 ADT, JUNE 7, 2009 IN A DHC-2 BEAVER ON FLOATS. THERE WERE THREE PASSENGERS IN ADDITION TO THE PILOT ON BOARD. THE WEATHER WAS VFR WITH LIGHT WINDS. THE TAKEOFF CHANNEL WAS NARROW AND REQUIRED PRECISE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. AS THE AIRCRAFT INCREASED SPEED ON THE TAKEOFF RUN THE INHERENT TORQUE CREATED A LEFT TURNING TENDENCY. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO ARREST THE TURN. TO AVOID HITTING THE BANK OF THE CHANNEL THE PILOT LIFTED THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE WATER PREMATURELY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE LEFT BANK OF THE DEPARTURE CHANNEL. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PERSONS ON THE GROUND OR IN THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC09CA050](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC09CA050), Jun 7, 2009: De Havilland DHC-2 (N915RC), Anchorage, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
