## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 8, 2009, AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 A.M. CDT, N6393R, A CESSNA CE-172RG, WAS MAKING A DOWNWIND APPROACH RUNWAY 17 AT BROWNWOOD, TEXAS (KBWD), WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS HIT BY A BUZZARD THAT APPEARED SUDDENLY IN FRONT AND SLIGHTLY LEFT OF THE AIRCRAFT, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING LEADING EDGE AND UPPER SKIN OF THE LEFT WING. THE PILOT REPORTED AT FIRST HE THOUGHT HE HAD MISSED THE BIRD, BUT THEN FELT A THUD. THE PILOT VERIFIED THE PASSENGERS ON BOARD WERE NOT INJURED AND PROCEEDED TO CHECK THE GEAR TO VERIFY IT WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AT THE BROWNWOOD AIRPORT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS WAS A PERSONNEL PLEASURE FLIGHT AND VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEADING EDGE, NOSE RIBS AND TOP SKIN OF THE LEFT WING WHERE THE BIRD IMPACTED. THERE WERE FOUR PERSONS ABOARD THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME, AND NO INJURIES. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM THE BROWNWOOD AIRPORT.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
