## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 6, 2009, AT ABOUT 0830 LOCAL TIME, N43598, A MOSES CURTISS W. MODEL AEROLITE 103 AIRPLANE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED WHEN IT COLLIDED WITH A CYLINDRICAL METAL OBJECT BETWEEN A HOUSE AND IT'S OUT-BUILDING IN LOS LUNAS,, NEW MEXICO. AS THE SMALL AIRCRAFT HIT THE METAL OBJECT, IT CAME TO REST ABRUPTLY CAUSING THE FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT TO BREAK INTO SMALL PIECES. THE ABOVE-WING PUSHER MOUNTED ENGINE WAS BENT FORWARD AND TO THE LEFT AND THE TAIL STRUCTURE WAS BUCKLED TO THE RIGHT. THE PILOT REPORTED OVER UNICOM FREQUENCY THAT HE HAD LOST POWER AND THAT HE WAS GOING TO MAKE AN EMERGNECY LANDING. POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVIELED THERE WAS ONLY A TRACE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE AUXILLARY FUEL TANK AND THE MAIN FUEL TANK HAD APPROXIMATELY 2.5-3.0 GALLONS OF AUTOMOTIVE FUEL. THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE WAS IN THE "AUX" POSITION AND THE PLUMBING OF THE FUEL LINES WERE CONSISTENT WITH LABELING OF THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE. THERE WERE NO PLACARDS IDENTIFYING THE TWO FUEL TANKS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09LA345](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09LA345), Jun 9, 2009: Curtiss Moses Aerolite (N43598), Los Lunas, NM, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to fuel starvation as a result of the pilot's fuel mismanagement.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
