## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) APPROXIMATELY 1430 HOURS EASTERN LOCAL TIME, DURING TAKEOFF ON A SOFT RUNWAY (GRASS STRIP) PARALLEL TO RUNWAY 15-33, THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT ELECTED TO ABORT DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE AIRCRAFT TO ACCELERATE. PILOT LANDED BEYOND THE INTERSECTING RUNWAY 6-24 ONTO THE GRASS FIELD. DURING ROLL-OUT, THE NOSE GEAR WHEEL/TIRE SHEARED OFF OF THE END OF THE STRUT, DUE TO THE TERRAIN, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SUDDENLY STOP AND FLIP OVER. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED. MINOR INJURIES TO BOTH THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT PILOTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09LA358](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09LA358), Jun 20, 2009: Piper PA-28-161 (N29496), Plymouth, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The CFI's inadequate preflight planning and delay to abort the takeoff from the soft takeoff area.
