## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS DEPARTING WEST ON A GRASS RUNWAY NEXT TO A CORN FIELD AT APPROXIMATELY 1400 ON JUNE 20, 2009. THE GRASS RUNWAY WAS NOT LEVEL, IT HAD SEVERAL RAISED AREAS AND SEVERAL LOW AREAS. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT REACHED THE MIDDLE OF THE RUNWAY,IT HIT A LOW AREA WHICH CAUSED IT TO BOUNCE. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ON THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT WAS NOT ABLE TO GAIN ENOUGH AIRSPEED TO COMPLETE A SUCCESSFUL DEPARTURE. THE AIRCRAFT ACHIEVED FLIGHT TEMPORARILY AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. IT RETURNED TO THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 15 FEET PASS THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE DESCENDING SIDE OF A GRASS COVERED HILL WHEN IT RETURN TO THE GROUND WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE DAMAGE IT RECEIVED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA09CA359](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA09CA359), Jun 20, 2009: Aircraft Mfg & Development CH 601XL S (N2601), Vaughn, MS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate preflight planning.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
