## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PRIVATE PILOT/^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^WAS PRACTICING STOP AND GO LANDINGS AT THE FT. COLLINS-LOVELAND AIRPORT WITH A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WHILE PURSUING A TAIL-WHEEL ENDORSEMENT FOR HIS RECENTLY ACQUIRED PA-22 TRIPACER AIRCRAFT THAT HAD BEEN CONVERTED TO A PA-20-150 TAILWHEEL AIRCRAFT. AFTER SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL CIRCUITS, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ATTEMPTING ONE FINAL LANDING BEFORE TERMINATING THE TRAINING FLIGHT. DURING THIS LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED LEFT AND YAWED RIGHT, EVENTUALLY LEAVING THE PAVED SURFACE SIDEWAYS. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED; THE LEFT WING IMPACTED THE GROUND; AND THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STOP. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ATTEMPTED TO ASSIST IN APPLYING CORRECTIVE ACTIONS, BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO PREVENT THE AIRCRAFT FROM EXITING THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN09CA376](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN09CA376), Jun 22, 2009: Piper PA-22-150 (N5824D), Fort Collins, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane during a crosswind landing. Contributing to the accident was the instructor's delayed action in regaining control of the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
