## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE FOLLOWING FACTS ARE DERIVED FROM THE PILOT AND PASSENGERS WRITTEN STATEMENTS: THE AIRCRAFT WAS ENROUTE FROM VG58 TO FFC. APPROXIMATELY 5O MILES FROM FFC, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED FUEL DEPLETION OF THE RIGHT FUEL TANK, FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY FUEL DEPLETION OF THE LEFT FUEL TANK. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CRASH LANDED IN A FIELD. THE FUEL CAPS WERE INSTALLED ON 6-23-2009 BY THE PILOT. THE FUEL CAPS WERE BORROWED FROM A FRIEND OF THE PILOT AND WERE ORIGINALLY INSTALLED ON A CESSNA 182RG AIRCRAFT. THE FOLLOWING FACTS WERE OBSERVED VISUALLY BY ME: THE AIRCRAFT WAS CRASH LANDED IN AN UNDEVELOPED SUBDIVISION IN PORTERDALE, GA; WHERE IT SUFFERED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. FUEL STREAKING FROM BOTH FUEL CAPS IS EVIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion as a result of the pilot's use of improper fuel caps. From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
