## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DAVID MCCARTNEY STATED WHILE AT CRUISE OVER LILLIAN BAY AT 115KTS AND APPROXIMATELY 700 FOOT THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE SPUTTERED. HE STATED THAT HE ADDED POWER TO CLEAR THE MAGNETOS. THE SPUTTER INCREASED REGARDLESS OF THE POWER SETTING. HE DECIDED THAT HE COULD NOT MAKE THE AIRFIELD WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING AND ELECTED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING. HE RADIOED THE FERGUSON AIRPORT AND INFORMED THEM OF HIS SITUATION AND DECISION. HE PICKED AN OPEN FIELD AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT WITH NO DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
