## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT CONDUCTED GROUND RUNUPS ON THE ENGINE AND SYSTEMS BEFORE TAKING THE ACTIVE RUNWAY FOR TAKE-OFF, THESE RUNUPS WENT SMOOTHLY AND NO PROBLEMS OCCURED. AFTER BEING CLEARED FOR TAKE-OFF, THE PILOT APPLIED POWER AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN ITS TAKE-OFF ROLL, AFTER BECOMING AIRBOURNE THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO CLIMB UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 400 AGL, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND THEN COMPLETELY STOPPED. PILOT INITIATED A TURN TOWARDS THE DIAGONAL RUNWAY, AS AIRCRAFT APPROACHED END OF RUNWAY 20 PILOT STALLED THE AIRCRAFT AT 20-30 FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE RUNWAY AND COLLAPSED BOTH GEAR AND CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE OF THE WINGS, TAIL AND CABIN AREA. THE AIRCRAFT SLID OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WHERE IT CAME TO A REST AND THE SOLE PILOT/OCCUPANT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITH A MINOR CUT TO ONE LEG. AIRCRAFT WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND WAS PLACED INTO THE OWNERS HANGER FOR THE INVESTIGATION. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT NO PROBLEMS SEEMED TO EXISTS THAT WOULD LEAD TO AN ENGINE FAILURE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR09LA336](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR09LA336), Jul 5, 2009: Thomas C. Piper Murphy Rebel (N5PQ), Idaho Falls, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power during initial climb due to fuel starvation. The underlying reason for the fuel starvation condition could not be determined.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
