## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AFTER LANDING DURING ROLLOUT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^PILOT IS A MEMBER OF THE US COAST GUARD AUXILIARY AND WAS COMPLETING A COAST GUARD MISSION AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE FOLLOWING QUOTE IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE PILOT'S REPORT TO THE US COAST GUARD: " I WAS RETURNING TO MY HOME BASE AT KILG AFTER DROPPING OFF ONE CREW MEMBER AND ONE TRAINEE AT CAPE MAY COUNTY AIRPORT (KWWD). THE APPROACH AND LANDING WERE NORMAL UNITL I NEEDED TO STEER THE AIRPLANE TO STAY IN THE CENTER OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE WAS DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT AND THE NOSE WHEEL STEERING WAS INOPERATIVE. I WAS ABLE TO CORRECT THE DRIFT WITH APPLICATION OF DIFFERENTIAL BRAKE PRESSURE. AS THE AIRPLANE SLOWED DOWN, THE NOSE WHEEL SLOWLY RETRACTED INTO TO WHEEL WELL AND BOTH PROPELLERS MADE CONTACT WITH THE RUNWAY. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD, THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT MADE CONTACT WITH THE RUNWAY AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID TO A STOP".

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
