## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 13, 2009, AT APPROXIAMTELY 2248 UTC, N93CA A BEECHCRAFT BE-18 OPERATED BY COASTAL AIR, LLC (5CLA), ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PILOT-IN-COMMAND, LANDED AT THE YAKUTAT MUNCIPAL AIRPORT (PAYA) ON RUNWAY 29. DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT AND APPROXIMATELY AT THE MIDPOINT OF THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AICRAFT, GROUND LOOPED WITH A TURN TO THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN EXITED THE RUNWAY SURFACE TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY EDGE, STRIKING A SINGLE RUNWAY LIGHT. THE RESULTING SIDE LOAD CAUSED THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR TO COLLAPSE WITH ADDITIONAL SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND ASSOCIATED STRUCTURE, THE RIGHT AILERON AND FLAP SURFACES, RIGHT-SIDE PROPELLER, AND MINOR DAMAGE TO GEAR DOORS. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY EDGE FACING APPROXIMATELY 290 DEGREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC09CA066](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC09CA066), Jul 13, 2009: Beech G18S (N93CA), Yakutat, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing, which resulted in a runway excursion, and main landing gear collapse.
