## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TAKEOFF DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL GLIDER FLIGHT AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY, HITING A BUSH, AND FENCE POST. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD LINED UP LEFT OF CENTERLINE TO AVOID A DROP OFF ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. PILOT STATED THAT ON INITIAL ROLLOUT AIRCRAFT VEERED RIGHT, PILOT CORRECTED AND BROUGHT AIRCRAFT BACK TOWARDS THE CENTERLINE. PILOT STATED THAT AT THIS TIME LEFT FULL RUDDER WAS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN STRAIGHT DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. AT APPROXIMATELY 100' AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE RIGHT AGAIN, THE INSTRUCTOR DISCONNECTED FROM THE TOW PLANE, AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 130'. GLIDER IMPACTED A BUSH AND THEN A FENCE POST BEFORE STOPPING. POST CRASH INSPECTION OF THE AREA REVEALED A SECTION OF DENSE ALFALFA GRASS MIXED IN WITH REGULAR GRASS APPROXIMATELY 10-30 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY EDGE THAT THE GLIDER WING USUALLY TRAVELS OVER OR THROUGH. A POSSIBLE REASON FOR AFFECTING THIS FLIGHT INCLUDE THE LINING UP RIGHT OF THE CENTER OF THE RUNWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
